We enjoy sharing our lovely life with our pet visitors and showing off how well mannered and patient we are. Sometimes we have to work on the pecking order stuff and even give up our favourite spot on the bed (usually to the cats) but that's O.K. - we've worked out we all get spoilt equally so we're not really fussed and at least life's never boring.
We love waking up and having a stretch and a play and we all get a good morning kiss and massages before getting out of bed - best part of the day, except maybe for getting back into bed. Hmmn,…. then again, walkies are rather great and so is just mooching around in the fabulous park across the road. Sometimes we have B.B.Qs and picnics and there's always great food treats then.
Other times we do the café society thing and visit our favourite dog friendly restaurants where the waiters fuss over us and give us fresh water and treats and we get lots of attention from passers by. At times we have to show our canine friends how to behave and walk together nicely but they're usually nearly as smart as us and Ursula is good at refining their social skills so they do us proud.
We also have a responsibility be a good example around the house, especially the barking bit but sometimes the doggie in us takes over, ooops!! Never mind Ursula is always patient with us and if we or our visiting friends overdo it she puts us through a bit of training and we have to admit it does keep things peaceful and relaxed.
For quiet times Ursula takes us out on the porch and we sit in the sun watching the world go by while passers by stop to admire and chat to us. Or we snooze in the pet basket or on a chair next to Ursula while she works at her desk. The cats get the best spot on the desk or on her lap or look down on us from atop a cupboard or somewhere equally amazing to get to. If it's nice weather we'll step outside through the pet door for some sun and fresh air - oh dear, the cat's got the best chair again! Well thank goodness we have lots of armchairs and cushions in the lounge room because maybe the evening is really the best time of the day when everyone loves sharing Ursula's attention and cuddles while she reads, or watches T.V. or plays some gentle music.
It's a dog's life, but someone's gotta do it……
